Another option is: Project > Properties > Java Build Path Select Libraries tab Select the troublesome JRE entry Click Edit button Choose an alternate JRE Click Finish button Pointing the project at your installed JRE might be a better choice than renaming your JRE to match the old project code.
In project’s properties, go to Deployment Assembly. Add there the buildpath entries as well which you’ve manually added as user libraries. It’ll end up in /WEB-INF/lib of the deployed WAR.

AFAIK, IntelliJ allows to exclude packages. Open Project Structure (Ctrl + Alt + Shift + S in Linux) → Modules → Sources tab. When you have a multimodules maven project under a parent project, make sure you’re not editing the file in the maven parent project.
